Literally a sneeze outside of the city..

Hey what lucky pups we are. Ruby's best friend and her parents are spending the week upstate at Sebago cabins  in Harriman State Park - literally a sneeze outside of the city. Pop in the car from Brooklyn and we were there swimming in the lake an hour and a quarter later. The littles, Pups and l tend to hike up that way a lot, but this little diamond in the rough completely escaped us.

Sebago Lake

Most cabins have beds only and very rustic (with no loo's, those are dotted around the camp with shower rooms much like campsites), but come with a spot to BBQ and a fire pit for the evening ritual of marshmallows and conversation. Two of the cabins do come with a small kitchen and loo, but apparently the historic society got whiff of the renovation's and put a beastly quash on it. Tennis courts, Ping Pong, Swing Set, and Volley Ball, Friday night they project a movie, and even dabble in a wee spot of Karaoke. l have to say mind - l would be sat by that lake lapping up the ridiculously peaceful setting and watching the kids catch fish, climb rocks and do handstands in the lake all day long.

A top find  (@ less than $350 for the week, two cabins lakeside a wee bit more pricey) and one these guys have been coming to for over 10 years now, and have never being more in love with the spot than when they first came. The one downside for me is no furry friends allowed. Shame to leave the pups at home with this lake to retrieve tennis balls repeatedly - sad face...

No swimming after Labor day in the lake, so you could still book now for the fall - but hiking would primarily be your action for the stay - unless crochet and hanging with the littles around the camp would float your boat.

l plan to pop a date on the calendar for next summer and book it in the Spring for a week of fun and frolics - cheap as chips of course. Cant beat that with bat.

If you're looking to introduce your itchy and scratchy's to the great outdoors but not eager to commit that 5 plus drive up to the mountains to try it out - l say give this fab spot a whirl. Keep in mind the introduction to freedom on the kids behalf is always a plus too given they can roam the grounds without getting themselves into too much mischief.

An exciting find - Pinballs all round!
